COE Moves Up Again in 2019 U.S. News and World Report Rankings

Hardy Tower at SDSU
U.S. News and World Report has released their 2019 Best Graduate Education School Rankings and once again, SDSU has risen.  Our College of Education is now ranked #54 among all Colleges/Schools of Education in the nation.  Last year, the SDSU College of Education was ranked #57. The strong rankings are due in part to the reputation College of Education faculty have developed as leaders in their various disciplines. As well, the strong rankings are influenced by the success of College of Education faculty in acquiring funding for their research.  While SDSU is now ranked 54th among all universities, it is ranked 43rd among public universities.

In California, SDSU has the 7th highest ranked College of Education.  UCLA (ranked #1 in the nation), Stanford (ranked #4), USC (ranked #10), UC Berkeley (ranked #19), UC Irvine (ranked #24), and UC Davis (ranked #37) are all perennial leaders in education. SDSU, however, is now tied with UC Santa Barbara (ranked #54), and has surpassed several other University of California campuses including UC San Diego, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Cruz. Additionally, SDSU continues to be San Diego County’s highest ranked College of Education (ahead of UCSD, USD, and other local Colleges of Education). Among the California State Universities, SDSU has the only College of Education ranked among the top 100 in the nation.

Scholars in all seven of the College’s departments/schools (Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education; Child and Family Development; Counseling and School Psychology; Dual Language and English Learner Education; Educational Leadership; Special Education; and Teacher Education) have contributed to SDSU’s ranking success by publishing influential research, acquiring major grants and contracts, and developing strong programs that prepare outstanding professionals. The College’s full- and part-time faculty are supported by a dedicated staff who ensure the effective and efficient operation of the College’s undergraduate and graduate programs. Joe Johnson, Dean of our College of Education, commented, “This ranking is one more indicator of the important impact of our faculty and staff. They are influencing the quality of education in our local community, throughout our state and nation, and around the world. It is a great honor for me to work with such talented and dedicated professionals.”
