The College of Education is delighted to congratulate the following members of the COE family for their recent achievements:



Alumni 


  • Andrea Dooley '02, '04, '11, SDSU’s associate vice president for student affairs, was notified that her dissertation for the Ed.D. program was included in SDSU Library’s third annual Most Accessed Theses List. Since June 2011, her dissertation has received more than 7,500 clicks or downloads. 
  • Don Dumas, ’08, ’16, a graduate of the Online Master of Arts in Teaching program, was named Teacher of the Year for Sweetwater Union High School District. Dumas teaches social studies and coaches basketball at Bonita Vista High School. 

Faculty 



  • Dr. Alberto Esquinca, associate professor in the Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education, was awarded a $19,086 grant from the University of San Diego. 
  • Dr. Marilee Bresciani Ludvik, professor of postsecondary educational leadership, received the Robert H. Shaffer Award for Academic Excellence as a Graduate Faculty Member at the 2019 NASPA Conference in Los Angeles. 
  • Dr. Kris Rodenberg, lecturer in the School of Teacher Education, was named a runner-up for San Diego Unified School District Teacher of the Year. Read the story.
  • Dr. Caren Sax, chair of the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education was awarded a $602,492 grant from Cal Promise Initiative. 
  • Dr. Marissa Vasquez, assistant professor in postsecondary educational leadership, received the Latinx Knowledge Community Outstanding Faculty Award at the 2019 NASPA Conference in Los Angeles. 

Students 



  • Ikram Aweys and Luke Lintott, school counseling graduate students, were awarded the James William Allen Memorial Service Scholarship at the HB McDaniel Foundation Scholarship Program Banquet at Stanford University.
  • WonYoung L. Cho, Joint Doctoral Program in Education candidate, accepted a position at Lewis & Clark College in Oregon as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy Program. 
  • Jennifer Dowlan, school psychology graduate student, received the Dean’s Award at the 2019 Student Research Symposium. 
  • Vannessa Falcon, Joint Doctoral Program in Education candidate, was featured on the cover of 360 magazine for her work to improve the lives of transborder students. Read the story
  • Helina Hoyt received the Dean’s Award at the 2019 Student Research Symposium. 
  • Ariana Huesias and Cassie Horg, graduate students in postsecondary educational leadership with a specialization in student affairs, won the Case Study Competition at the 2019 NASPA Conference in Los Angeles.
  • Grace Megginson, child and family development major, received the Mundt Peace Fellowship and will complete an internship this summer in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Read the story.
  • Al Schleicher, Joint Doctoral Program in Education candidate, received the Provost's Award at the 2019 Student Research Symposium. 
  • Hannah Zimmerman, child development graduate student, received the Provost's Award at the 2019 Student Research Symposium.
