CISP Finds New Home at SDSU

intl. studies project
The statewide office for the California International Studies Project (CISP) has found a new home in the SDSU College of Education.

Emily Schell, Ed.D., who served as International Studies Teacher Education Project (ISTEP) Director and School of Teacher Education faculty, was recently named CISP Executive Director. Dr. Schell saw this as an opportunity to bring CISP headquarters to SDSU and was met with overwhelming support from Dean Johnson and Associate Dean Nancy Farnan.

CISP is a legislated program that promotes global education, world history and geography, and interdisciplinary studies through professional development for K-12 educators. CISP is one of nine California Subject Matter Projects created to enhance teaching and learning opportunities between faculty in institutions of higher education and teachers in elementary and secondary schools.

CISP sites at Sonoma State University, CSU Fullerton, CSU Dominguez Hills, San Diego State University, World Savvy in the Bay Area, and San Joaquin County (formerly at University of the Pacific) form a statewide network providing regional support through a variety of workshops, institutes, and programs. For example, several sites connect local students with students abroad to discuss and propose solutions for global issues. Equity and Access is a signature program that helps teachers to develop teaching practices that motivate, engage, and maintain rigor for all students developing global competencies.
