Aquino-Sterling to Participate in the CUNY Advanced Research Collaborative

cristian
Dr. Cristian Aquino-Sterling, assistant professor in the School of Teacher Education, has been selected to serve as a Visiting Fellow at the Advanced Research Collaborative (ARC) of the City University of New York (CUNY).

According to ARC, the collaborative extends the CUNY Graduate Center's global reach and prominence as an international hub of advanced study. Aquino-Sterling will be conducting a study titled "Towards Developing Pedagogical Spanish: Evidence from NYC Bilingual Teacher Preparation Programs." The study is designed to investigate how bilingual teacher preparation programs in New York City develop bilingual teacher candidates’ Spanish skills for academic subject matter instruction in K-12 bilingual schools.

As a Visiting Fellow at the ARC, Aquino-Sterling will have the opportunity to present his work at the annual ARC seminar and participate in the general academic life of the Graduate Center. Fellows in the program also have the opportunity to give presentations to the public and share their in-progress work with doctoral students in research seminars.

This research venture draws on a study Aquino-Sterling is currently conducting in the State of California and sponsored by the California Council on Teacher Education. The results will be significant for advocacy seeking to affect change in bilingual teacher preparation policy and practice at state and national levels.

The CUNY’s Graduate Center contains forty research centers, institutes, interdisciplinary committees, and other academic initiatives that work to promote interdisciplinary research. The collaborative supports several areas of study, with a focus on a small number of research themes each year. Congratulations to Dr. Aquino-Sterling!
