The Center for Excellence in School Counseling and Leadership (CESCaL) is hosting a first-of-its-kind conference this spring focusing on the rights, laws, and policies to support immigrant and undocumented students.

Titled “Supporting Access to Higher Education for Immigrant & Undocumented Students for School Counselors and College Access Partners,” the first annual conference is scheduled for April 27 and 28 and will be centered on equipping and training school counselors and college access partners with the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to support immigrant and undocumented students as they pursue higher education. It will also further address efforts to eliminate institutional barriers faced by undocumented and immigrant students in the educational system.

The conference begins the first day with an awards ceremony, and will feature two days packed with workshops and presentations. School counselors and administrators are all encouraged to attend as they will hear from both national and local experts on the importance of access to higher education for immigrant children.

Attendees will strengthen their skills to mentor, counsel, and advise students as future college candidates through seminars including best practices, funding options, and collaboration between high schools and community colleges.
