2016 Class of SDSU IS3D Students Graduate in Palau

Palau Graduates
As their three-year journey came to an end in May 2016, students who attended San Diego State University remotely from their home on the island of Palau were able to reap the benefits of their hard work as they earned their Bachelor’s Degrees.

SDSU’s Interwork Institute and the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education (ARPE) partnered with Palau Community College to welcome 22 new Palauan graduates who earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies in Three Departments (IS3D). The customized program is designed for practicing teachers who already hold an Associate’s Degree. Students complete 18 courses that have been selected to enhance the skills of practicing teachers in a blended model which includes distance education and face-to-face classroom time, thus extending the reach of SDSU’s educational impact.

The IS3D major is designed for students whose career goal or academic interest is not addressed by an existing SDSU major and must subjectively choose the three departments, and the specific classes within those departments, that they propose for their major requirements.
Students in Palau chose from a variety of departments for their studies, ranging from Biology to Communication to Child and Family Development.

SDSU and the Interwork Institute has partnered with institutions in Pacific entities to provide degree and certificate training programs in the Republic of Palau for the past 20 years. The partnership also offers a Master’s Degree program in Postsecondary Educational Leadership, which many of the recent graduates are already looking into!

The College of Education would like to congratulate the most recent IS3D graduates from Palau on their well-deserved academic accomplishments!
