Student Spotlight: Mikayla Lacebal
Great leaders establish their leadership early on in their professional careers. Mikayla Lacebal, a senior Liberal Studies major at San Diego State University, is certainly no exception.
As a freshman, Lacebal got involved in many student organizations. She was part of her residential hall council as well as part of the Residential Hall Association as the community service chair during her time in the residence halls. As a freshman, she was also able to become a member of the Student California Teachers Association (SCTA), where she went on to serve as the Vice-President of Finance her second year.
As a sophomore, Lacebal continued her extensive student involvement by joining the College of Education Student Council (COESC) board as the public relations chair where she was later selected the same year to represent the council as President. She continued these leadership roles into her junior year in addition to founding the Liberal Studies Club and working in the pision of Undergraduate Studies Dean’s Office.
According to Lacebal, she would not be where she is today without the support of her family who have shaped her into the person she is becoming.
“My family has always been there for me and continues to be my number-one fan base,” Lacebal said. “I would not be the leader or person I am today without their endless amounts of love and support.”
Lacebal hopes to continue her career into teaching, carrying with her the invaluable experience as a leader that inspires those around her day in and day out.
“The College of Education has greatly impacted my studies at SDSU,” Lacebal told the College. “They have provided me with opportunities for leadership as well as introduced me to many incredible faculty members and staff.”
