7 Things You Didn’t Know About Pamela Gardner

7 Things You Didn’t Know About Pamela Gardner
How would you like to share a neighborhood with royalty? Undergraduate advisor in Child and Family Development, Pamela Gardner, did just that when she lived in London. She had another run-in with a different kind of celebrity in her Girl Scout days. Read on to find out who she sold cookies to and to discover more about her in this edition of 7 Things You Didn’t Know About Faculty and Staff!

1.
A Neighbor to Royalty
Pam lived in London and her first child was born there. She lived around the corner from Prince Charles and Princess Diana in Kensington.

2.
A Dog Whisperer!
Pam’s favorite hobby is dog agility.  She’s had two champion dogs and one was the top Wheaten Terrier in the US.

3.
Art Linkletter Inspired Her Career Goals
Pam met Art Linkletter, an alum and long-time supporter of SDSU, when he was the commencement speaker at a CFD graduation. As a young child, she loved to watch his television show, “Kids Say The Darndest Things.” He, and the children on his show, inspired her interest in Child Development.

4.
Green Eggs and Ham… and Girl Scout Cookies
As a child, Pam met Dr. Seuss. While a Girl Scout in elementary school, she sold cookies door-to-door. Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) and his wife, Audrey, purchased a box from her.

5.
Classic Rock Fanatic!
Pam loves classic rock music and just recently started going to concerts (better late than never!). In the last few years, she has seen The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

6.
Fifteen Minutes of Fame on a Game Show
Pam was a contestant on the $25,000 Pyramid. She didn’t win the big prize, but she did win $1,100 and a video camera.

7.
SDSU Aztec for over 20 Years!
Pam’s career at SDSU began in 1995 when she entered the Master’s Program in Child Development. She started as a graduate assistant, a graduate teaching assistant, and after graduation, she was hired as a part-time lecturer. That later led to her dream career as Undergraduate Advisor!

How Pam is making a difference in the College of Education:

“I am the Undergraduate Advisor in Child and Family Development, and I am honored to work with the best students on campus! I am committed to making the CFD experience a positive one for each and every one of my students. I feel a smile goes a long way, so I greet each student with a friendly face and warm demeanor. I realize that not all students are available during working hours, so I assist those students via email or phone during off-hours.  I have the privilege of serving on the SDSU Undergraduate Campus Advisers (UCA) Planning Committee, which helps to keep me up-to-date with campus advising issues. My goal is to have the best graduation rate on campus, and I’m working with each student to ensure our freshmen finish in four years and our transfer students graduate within two years.”
