The College of Education continues to shine, jumping 12 spots in a national ranking of best education schools.

The 2018 U.S. News & World Report ranking of Best Graduate Schools placed COE at No. 57, compared to No. 69 the previous year. The magazine also ranked COE No.1 in San Diego County and the California State University system and No. 8 in California.

“National rankings are just one way of recognizing the accomplishments and influence of our faculty, staff, and students,” said COE Dean Joseph F. Johnson, Jr. “I am thrilled to have national rankings that provide another affirmation of the outstanding work of our College.”

The annual U.S. News & World Report ranking looks at more than 1,900 programs in education, business, law, law, medicine, nursing and engineering and evaluated them on criteria such as students’ grade-point averages, acceptance rates and employment outcomes of graduates.

During the 2015-16 school year, there were 1208 graduate-level students enrolled in COE; 881 students were studying full time.

Johnson said he is particularly proud of the COE’s outstanding graduates, high graduation rates, influential research, publications and major grants coming into the institution. He also praised COE students for being talented, committed individuals who passionately seek to make a difference in the lives of those they will serve.

San Diego County employers are eager hire and promote COE graduates who go on to work in diverse communities as teachers, counselors, therapists, psychologists and administrators.

“The U.S. News and World Report's ranking acknowledges many of the important factors that impact our students and impact the field of practice,” Johnson added. “It is an important indicator of progress.”
