SDSU Alumni Distinguished Faculty Awards

Six exceptional San Diego State University faculty members received this year’s SDSU Alumni Distinguished Faculty Awards for outstanding contributions to the university and their respective fields. The honors were presented by San Diego State University President Adela de la Torre at the All-University Convocation on Thursday, Aug. 23, in Montezuma Hall at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

Our faculty award winner for 2018 is Dr. Nancy Frey. Nancy Frey is a professor of educational leadership in the College of Education. She is a prolific researcher, scholar and author, most recently co-authoring the book for teachers, “Checking for Understanding: Formative Assessment Techniques for Your Classroom,” now in its second edition. She applied her work locally as a co-founder of Health Sciences High and Middle College, a high-performing charter school located in San Diego’s City Heights community, where she continues to serve as a teacher leader. She has mentored many doctoral students in educational leadership and has secured more than $1 million in grants to support the study of educational issues.
