The College of Education is delighted to congratulate the following members of the COE family for their recent achievements:

Alumni


Dr. Emelyn dela Pena ’98 (Postsecondary Educational Leadership), ’09 (Joint Ed.D.), a has been named associate vice provost for inclusion, community and integrative learning at Stanford University.

Dr. Cassandra Drake ’19 (Joint Ph.D. Program in Education) has been appointed assistant professor of liberal studies at California State University Stanislaus.

Ariana Romero ’19 (Postsecondary Educational Leadership) was recently named a Chancellor Doctoral Incentive Program Scholar. She will be starting a Ph.D. program in Higher Education at UC Riverside this fall. She will be mentored by Assistant Professor Dr. Felisha Herrera Villarreal.

Faculty


Dr. Andre Branch, associate professor in the School of Teacher Education (STE), was selected to serve as a founding member of the CSU website advisory board.

Dr. Estella Chizhik, associate professor in STE, and Dr. Regina Brandon, associate professor of the Department of Special Education (SPED), received the 2018-19 Provost’s Strategic Excellence Award. They were recognized for their collaboration and implementation of a program to bring together general-education teacher and special-education teacher candidates to create fully inclusive general-education classrooms that will better serve diverse learners.

Dr. Y. Barry Chung, Dean of the College of Education, will receive the Eminent Career Award from the National Career Development Association (NCDA) at its annual conference in June. This is the highest honor given by NCDA, the oldest association in the counseling profession in the U.S.

Dr. Lisa Lamb, Qualcomm Endowed Professor of Mathematics Education in STE, has been named the College of Education’s 2019-2020 recipient of the Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Faculty Contributions to the University.

Dr. Margarita Machado-Casas, professor and department chair in the Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education (DLE); Janette Dorricott, lecturer DLE; and Svenna Pederson, lecturer in DLE, received the 2018-19 Provost’s Strategic Excellence Award. They were recognized for expanding the Dual Language and English Learner Department by adding several ASL courses in order to achieve student success, and for proposing a bilingual interpreting program which allows for interpreting credential programs in other languages, such as Spanish and Mexican Sign Language.

Reka Barton, Veronica Gonzalez and Charlene Holkenbrink-Monk, students in the Joint Ph.D. Program in Education (JDP), have been named Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program fellows. JDP now has 12 students enrolled in this competitive and prestigious program.
