Faculty and Staff Assembly Highlights Our Accomplishments

Student Union
The bi-annual faculty and staff assembly highlighted the many accomplishments the College of Education (COE) has achieved this past semester.

In an all-staff meeting held at the end of January, Dean Joseph Johnson took great pride in emphasizing the many points of pride for the College of Education. COE alone had eight award winners from outside and university-related honors, including the President’s Leadership Fund and Improving Futures Fund.

Furthermore, six departments all received funding from student success fee proposals, all of which are applied for and administered by San Diego State University. These ideas include a multicultural mental health speaker series, a workshop on customized employment and building relationships with employers, and a forum on multilingual education in California.

Perhaps the highlight of the assembly was Dean Johnson’s announcement of the Educational Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) results. The fall 2014 mid-year single-subject credential program students became the first group of SDSU students to take the edTPA. Of students who took the edTPA, 96% passed their assessment. More impressively, over half of the students specializing in math and science earned a score of four or five, both above the average mark.

The assembly served as a showcase of not only what the COE has accomplished, but also what it is capable of. As we move through the spring semester, keep an eye out for COE students, faculty, and alumni making a difference not just on campus, but in the global community as well.
