Dr. Taylor Honored with Marriage and Family Therapy Award

The College of Education’s Counseling and School Psychology (CSP) department faculty chairman Dr. Brent Taylor was honored with the Educator Award this June. This honor is awarded by the California Division of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT­CA).


As an associate professor at San Diego State, Dr. Taylor has been extensively involved with the AAMFT, serving as both elections chair and district leader in San Diego. In 2012, Taylor also contributed to the successful AAMFT Division Conference held on the SDSU campus. He has continually encouraged his students to be active within the Association as well by both attending and presenting at conferences.

The AAMFT is a professional association that facilitates research, theory development, and education of over 50,000 Marriage and Family Therapists worldwide. Its members meet rigorous standards for education and training and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. 

Now the chair of the CSP department, Dr. Taylor is also director of the Marriage and Family Therapy program and a cornerstone of a program that prides itself on a focus of social justice and being culturally diverse. Taylor will be receiving this award as a result of his teaching, hard work, and his service to the study of marriage and family therapy.
