Educational Leadership Chair Named Administrator of the Year

Doug Fisher
The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) recently named Educational Leadership chairman Doug Fisher their Administrator of the Year for its Professor of Education category.

As the recipient from the Southern California region, Dr. Fisher’s merits stretch across a wide range of accomplishments, most notably his scholarly publication history. Specializing in educational leadership and school reform, Fisher has both researched and written extensively on the subject of instructional improvement within schools and continues to support school districts as they move closer to the new educational standards in the State of California.

“Doug received this award due to his outstanding scholarship, teaching, and service,” said the College of Education’s Dean Joseph F. Johnson, Jr. “He is one of the nation's most prolific authors of scholarly books and articles on educational leadership and school reform.”

Fisher’s work and publication history proved deserving of the ACSA’s Administrator Awards, which are given annually in recognition of school leaders statewide. These recipients display exemplary efficiency in both their management and, in Fisher’s case, research. With over 20 categories recognized by the Association, Fisher’s regional recognition comes after his work with the Chula Vista Elementary School District and its rapid improvement.

Fisher, a member of SDSU’s College of Education since 1998, is adding this award to an already impressive collection of honors that include the International Reading Association Celebrate Literacy Award, the Farmer Award for Excellence in Writing from the National Council of Teachers of English, a Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teacher Education, and is also a member of the California Reading Hall of Fame.
