Ángel Gonzalez, a doctoral candidate in San Diego State University’s Ed.D. in Community College Leadership program, has been named recipient of the Graduate Rising Star Award by NASPA Region VI.
NASPA is the premier professional organization for student affairs professionals. Its Region VI includes California, Arizona and Hawai’i, as well as New Zealand, Australia, China, Guam, Malaysia and Singapore.
“Gracias everyone for this recognition — especially my dissertation chair, Dra. Marissa Vasquez, who continues to uplift me and my program director, Dr. Wendy Bracken, who supports me in all that I do,” Gonzalez said. “NASPA Region VI has been my professional home for a decade since I began my journey in student affairs as a NUFP (NASPA’s Undergraduate Fellows Program) in 2011. Con orgullo por mi ama y apa — I'm truly humbled and honored.”
Passionate about advancing equity in higher education, Gonzalez has focused his research on LGBTQIA+ Latinx students at community colleges. He was recently profiled in the College of Education’s “COE Stories” video series.
