San Diego State University’s online master’s program in education is No. 15 in the nation, according to a new ranking from U.S. News & World Report.

The College of Education Master of Arts program prepares future elementary and secondary school teachers and educational administrators, a highly competitive field in online education. SDSU is one of only two California public universities in the publication’s top 100 for 2021.

“We are extremely proud that our online master's programs continue to be recognized among the nation’s best,” said Y. Barry Chung, dean of the College of Education. “Our innovative faculty tailor programs to empower teachers and educational leaders to expand their skills and knowledge, build connections, advance their careers and make a positive impact worldwide.”

Released Jan. 26, the annual rankings weigh such factors as the opportunities students have to interact with their instructors and classmates and the extent to which they stay enrolled toward the completion of their degrees.

In separate listings of education specialties offered online at the master’s level, SDSU also was No. 15 in Curriculum and Instruction and No. 15 in Educational Administration and Supervision as ranked by U.S. News. Both are the highest rankings this year for any university in California.
