ASL Courses Return to SDSU

Beginning this Fall SDSU will be offering American Sign Language (ASL) courses to meet foreign language requirements for undergraduate students. Courses will be offered through the Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education (DLE) in ASL Level 1 (DLE 101) and Level 2 (DLE 102) in Fall 2016 and ASL level 3 (DLE 201) will be offered in Spring 2017. Courses are currently listed in the SDSU class schedule.

Professors Janette Dorricott, Adam Frost, and Svenna Pedersen will join the DLE Department as lecturers for the ASL courses.

Janette Dorricott, has been a lecturer in ASL for 15 years with the Department of Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences, and also teaches as adjunct faculty at University of California San Diego and Palomar College. She formerly taught at several community colleges in San Diego and volunteered as a teacher assistant at Cal State Northridge and Moorpark College. Janette is an active member with a long history in the ASL community in San Diego, and an involved member with the American Sign Language Teacher Association of San Diego.

ASL Faculty

Adam Frost, has been an adjunct faculty member in ASL at UCSD, Mesa College and City College. Adam has been an active part of the ASL community in San Diego and currently serving as the secretary for the San Diego chapter of the American Sign Language Teacher’s Association.

Svenna Pedersen, has been an adjunct faculty member in ASL at Gallaudet University, Mesa College, Grossmont College, Southwestern College. Svenna is also a part of the ASL community in San Diego and currently serves as the public relations board member for the San Diego chapter of the American Sign Language Teacher’s Association.
