Ciccati Earns Monty For a Lifetime of Work and Service

The College of Education was represented well at this year’s Monty Awards banquet, as Dr. Samuel Ciccati was recognized for his philanthropy and community service.

Dr. Ciccati has enjoyed a successful career in higher education administration, serving as both the Vice President of Grossmont College and the President of Cuyamaca College throughout his career. He earned a bachelor of arts with honors and distinction from SDSU in 1961 and a Master of Arts degree in 1966, with credentials from the College of Education’s teaching, counseling, and school administration programs.

With a resume like Dr. Ciccati’s, it would seem obvious why the one-time community college student deserves this distinction. Throughout his career, he served as a high school teacher and counselor, a Peace Corps Officer and a community college instructor, counselor, and department chair. After transferring to SDSU and earning his degree, he went on to be an administrative leader on community college campuses.

In his retirement, he has been active in the local Rotary as well as the SDSU Osher Learning Institute. In addition, Ciccati has established four endowed scholarships at SDSU; three in education and one in athletics. Read more about the Monty Awards on the SDSU President’s blog.
