Julianna Barnes, a former Community Based Block M.A. and Ed.D. in Community College Leadership student of the College of Education, was selected to serve as president of Cuyamaca College following a nationwide search.
Barnes, formerly the Vice President of Student Services as Mesa College, earned her doctorate from the SDSU Educational Leadership Program in 2010. She previously graduated from the COE’s Community Based Block (CBB) program in 1991, which Barnes attributes as “instrumental in shaping [her] both personally and professionally.”
Barnes writes that the College’s CBB program allowed her to discover herself and to grow and ignite her passion for social justice and equity. She is the second Educational Leadership Doctorate graduate to become a community college president.
“I owe so much to these two programs and the excellent faculty as they helped to shape me as both a practitioner and scholar in the community colleges,” Barnes said in an email to the college.
