Department of Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education (ARPE) alum Paul Hayes and faculty members Dr. Charles Degeneffe, Dr. Marj Olney, and Dr. Mark Tucker recently published their impactful research in the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, the top journal in rehabilitation counseling.

Lead author Hayes of the study entitled, “From Homelessness to Employment: Perceptions of OEF and OIF Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder” is a May 2012 Rehabilitation Counseling Program graduate and conducted the study as his Masters thesis. Degeneffe, Olney, and Tucker were members on his thesis committee. Hayes is a former Army officer and OIF combat veteran.

To date, little research has documented the post deployment experiences among Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) veterans with PTSD, especially with regard to employment. It is a reason this study is so impactful for the rehabilitation counseling profession.
